A few years back I was sitting in a local coffee shop, frustrated that social media wasn’t showing my work. I had just spent days creating beautiful, intricately decorated cookies and hours editing and uploading pictures for my thousands of followers to see. Unfortunately, the majority of my followers were fellow cookie makers, which meant they weren’t potential customers. Along with that, social media wasn’t showing my posts to even a fraction of my followers or a new audience. So, how could I get people who would be interested in buying my fancy cookies to actually see my fancy cookies? If only there was a place the public could go to find my work…

Another issue in speaking with my fellow bakers, is that many of them have home based businesses and that means they are subject to local ordinances. One of which is that they can’t sell across state lines or due the the nature of their product, they don’t ship at all. This greatly limits their customer base. I’ve often heard, “I can’t charge what I should be charging because people won’t pay that in my area.” But the real issue is that most people in their area don’t even know they exist.

This is why I founded Bookabaker. No more being at the mercy of social media algorithms, expensive advertising fees or your always asking for a discount friends & family. My goal is to make Bookabaker the #1 place people go to find sweets & baked goods. You have a yummy product and everyone looking for that yummy product can now easily find it!

HOW IT WORKS

Bookabaker is a listing of bakers & confectioners. Your products are not sold on our website and we do not take any percentages of your sales. You simply register your business and create a profile that showcases your products along all your business information. You choose how you would like people to reach out and order from you. This can be in person at your bakery, through social media or your website. (You do not have to have a store front bakery, website or social media to create a profile. Pictures of your available products and a way to contact you is all you need.)

How much does it cost?

Currently it is only $17 to register your business with a yearly renewal fee to keep your business listed. We do not charge any fees to list your products nor do we take any percentages from the sales of your products.

Why so cheap?

I created Bookabaker with the purpose of helping people like me, who want to create amazing desserts and be able to make a living doing so. I know what it’s like to be struggling financially and have a very minimal amount to invest and run a business. Every dollar counts. I created a fee that’s affordable, yet viable enough to maintain and advertise the website.

What type of products can I offer?

Any baked goods, desserts or confections. Baked goods, desserts and/or candy needs to be the main product of your business. This includes, but is not limited to: cakes, muffins, doughnuts, ice cream, cookies, pies, bread, lollipops, chocolates, dessert decorations, dog treats & edibles.

How do people find my products?

Users will be able to search by product, delivery options and postal code. Users will be able to create an account that allows them to save your business profile to their favorites. They can choose to only search bakers in their area or throughout the country. While creating your profile, there will be sections where you describe your products and what you have available. The key words you use to title and describe your products is how you will be found in the search. Bookabaker is currently available in the USA & Canada.

How do people contact me?

After you register your business, you will then fill out a business profile. This includes products you offer, product pictures, your business location and contact information. People may contact you directly through your business email or go to your website (if you have one) or one of your social media accounts linked in your profile.

What are the food regulations for my business?

Upon registering your business, you will be required to agree to the terms of service, which include compliance with government, state & local food laws and regulations. Violating these terms will result in your profile being removed.
